Bitcoin Protocol Question

If Bitcoin is no longer following the original 2009 Bitcoin.exe Protocol ( because upgraded through soft forks) , then how can we change current Bitcoin protocol back to mostly 2009 code to specifically render the new Bitcoin hard forks meaningless?
Dr. Craig Wright is literally trying to make the Nov 2018 hard fork impossible to sell, forcing it to only go up in price. Explain how this is not at all worrying anyone.
TL;DR: Bitcoin is being hard forked to SOLELY make people rich (this objectively works). How do we stop this behavior? Insightful responses only

How to import wallet.dat to bitcoin.com.exe wallet?

i have a wallet.dat file from Bitcoin core before the bch fork in 2017. I looked at the block explorer and I still see a final balance in there for bch.
Can I import the wallet.dat directly into Bitcoin.com.exe? I chose import file/txt and supplied the file encryption PW and and it returns an error message stating "could not decrypt file". I know the password is correct because I can go into Bitcoin core console using walletpassphrase "mypw" and it works(returned null)
How can I get my bch from an old BTC address? And I guess my next question after that would be how can I get my bsv from that same address.
Thanks!

Please help! Bitcoin problems caused by outdated wallet.

Hello reddit, I've got quite the dilemma on my hands.. I could definitely use all the help I could get. To explain my situation: Back in 2011 I created a bitcoin wallet on a thumbdrive, so it could be portable and just in case my laptop died (it did, by the way). I have just found this thumbdrive and therefore the bitcoin wallet on it. The wallet was from the beta release version (not sure the exact version). My issue is that first I was able to click Launch.bat and my wallet would start but then would give me an error saying that my bitcoin.conf file needed to contain "rpcpassword=". I changed this and didn't have any luck. I then copied over my bitcoin folder containing my wallet onto my current laptop. From here, I'm not completely sure where I went wrong so I will list everything I did: Downloaded Bitcoin Core Downloaded Electrum Clicked the "Bitcoin.exe" in the file I copied over to my laptop (I think this is causing the issues). I also changed the name of my thumbdrive from "CNA(H:) to "Removable Disk(H:)" but then switched it back again.
Now, when I go to start the wallet (using launch.bat) in my thumbdrive, I see the MS-DOS screen pop up quickly and leave. When I run launch.bat as an administrator it says "Windows cannot find C:\'Windows\System32\APP\bitcoin.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." I find this odd, because it should be referencing my thumbdrive, shouldn't it?
Along with this error, I am unable to start up Bitcoin Core, the error I get with that is ""Cannot obtain a lock on data directory C:Users\npardy\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin. Bitcoin Core is probable already running."
Preferably, I just want an easy way to import my wallet.dat file into another type of wallet which will just allow me to access my bitcoin.
Thank you to anyone who can help with this!

Bitcoining: a simple guide to get you started

Continuum pool is recommended over deepbit, read this post to use that instead. Instructions are virtually the same.
https://deepbit.net/
Sign up for an account. Choose proportional mode.
Download this and this and this.
First one you just extract. Second one is your mining program. Third one is your wallet where you keep track of all your bitcoins.
So you have a deepbit account, right? Well anyways after everything is extracted and installed open up your bitcoin.exe. There is a long string of text near the top in a box. That is your address. That is how you get paid and pay others. Copy that and then goto your account and paste it into the "Your bitcoin address for receiving rewards" box. Save settings.
Now go back to your account and click create worker. Set the worker's login tail to 0 and the password to anything you will remember. Leave payout as proportional and click save settings.
Open up GuiMiner. File>new other miner and navigate to where you extracted that third link(the one with 4 .exes). Select rpcminer-cuda.exe for your new other miner. Name it CUDA. In the guiminer tab for this new miner(the CUDA tab) set the server to other.
Host: pit.deepbit.net
Port: 8332
Username: [email protected]_0 you must add the _0
Password: The password of your created worker
Extra flags: Only needed for more than 1 graphics card, if this is true, read part 2
Go into guiminer and do file > save settings. Now click start mining. The number of MHash/s is completely dependent on your graphics card's power. I have 2 cards that get about 30 MH/s each. To check your mined coins go here.
Okay, so now just a bit of explaining. Your deepbit account is merely a holding place for your coins. To actually spend them you need to payout to your address. To do this goto your account and click the Payment link. You can only pay out if you have over 0.01 BTC. When you pay out it will appear in your bitcoin.exe, it takes a while the first time and every payment after that it is near instantaneous. Once it is in your bitcoin.exe congratulations, you now have bitcoins to spend. To spend them you just get the address of the person who you are sending them to then click the send button on bitcoin.exe, put in their address and the amount.
Also, goto C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin (if you're on windows7) and backup your wallet.dat file. That is your wallet. It has all of your money. Don't delete it.
Part 2, multiple graphics cards.
I have 2 graphics cards so setup took a bit more for me, if you have only 1 ignore this section.
Only a few things you need to do. Go to your deepbit account and click "create new worker". For worker login tail set it to 1. Set the password to something you will remember. Leave payment proportional. Save settings. Now go to your guiminer. In your original CUDA tab with your username as [email protected]_0 go into the extra flags and put in "-gpu=0". Now go to file>new other worker and choose the rpcminer-cuda.exe as before. Name it CUDA2. In the CUDA2 tab have the following settings.
Server: other
Host: pit.deepbit.net
Port: 8332
Username: [email protected]_1 must have the _1
Password: The password you set when you made the new worker on deepbit.
Extra flags: -gpu=1
So you end up with 2 tabs, a CUDA tab that has all the same settings except the email ends in _0 and the extra flags as -gpu=0 and a CUDA2 tab with the email ending in _1 and extra flags are -gpu=1.
File>save settings in guiminer and click start mining on both tabs.
A final piece of advice. This will use your GPU heavily, if you are gaming or anything else and notice that video is lagging go to the tray in the bottom right, find the GuiMiner icon and right click it and close it. Do not click stop mining in guiminer.exe. This always crashes my computer and will likely crash yours. Just close the program from the tray.

Keep Your Eyes Out For Bitcoin Miners | Windows (R) Contacts Import Tool [wabmig.exe]

Even though this is a specific case, hopefully it serves nonetheless as a reminder for those of you who sail the high seas. Check your GPU and CPU usage for any strange activity (Bitcoin miners), as sometimes scans from Windows Defender and even Malwarebytes can miss them.
Noticed your games and PC in general performing slowly lately? For me, it was a decrease in frames and stuttering exactly every second, for my friend it decreased her performance significantly and put her GPU usage up to 90% constantly.
It appeared as a process in Task Manager using 30% of my CPU: Microsoft (R) Contacts Import Tool. Upon killing it our GPU usage went down to idle and as did our CPU usage. Upon further investigation I found it as a file (wabmig.exe) in a folder called Windows Mail. Now here's the weird thing, it was in my Riot Games folder in AppData, right alongside League of Legends. The removal is fairly simple: kill the process and delete the folder (empty your recycle bin too!).
Now of course this just screams Bitcoin miner, so I scanned it with Malwarebytes and Defender... nothing. However, scanning it with VirusTotal revealed this. Here you can see an analysis of the entire Windows Mail folder we found. We had been installing things from the high seas, so to speak, so it most certainly came from that. I couldn't pinpoint which installer contained the miner but they were all fairly popular things. If you're flying the black flag, keep an eye on your usages.
I understand this might be a strange place to post something like this, and no, I'm not going to sit here and say "oh I didn't do anything dangerous" etc., however I've had a lot of experience at sea and yet I still got caught out. I think it's important for everyone to remember that Bitcoin miners can happen to even the more secure of us.
tl;dr - If your games have become sluggish out of nowhere, you could have a Bitcoin miner. Be safe when sailing the seven seas.
Edit: If anyone wants to disect the folder, PM me for a link to it. Just be careful obviously.
Edit 2: As a few people have suggested, Process Explorer is a great way to check your CPU and GPU usage.

Consistently getting the "Problem communicating with bitcoin RPC" error. Any suggestions?

I've tried a few different clients, but I always get the same sort of error. I know someone posted a day ago that had the same problem, but his solution didn't work for me. I've looked around the net for awhile for a solution, but nothing seems to fix it.
For simplicity's sake, I'll just describe my GUIMiner setup:
Server: Other
Website: n/a
Host: mtred.com
Port: 8337
Username: [username registered on mtred.com]
Password: [password for registered username on mtred.com]
Device: [0-0] ATI RV770 (it's an ATI 4870)
Extra flags: (nothing)
I've added the computer running the miner to my router's DMZ (running dd-wrt) so port access shouldn't be a problem. Anyone have any suggestions?
EDIT: Also, my firewall is disabled. Added "bitcoin.exe.", "guiminer.exe", and "poclbm.exe" to my Microsoft Security Essentials list of excluded processes. Still no dice :(
EDIT 2: Rawlsdeep solved my problem. I needed to create a worker on mtred.com and use my worker's credentials as my username and password for my mining program. Hopefully this will help someone else later on!

Need help with retrieving BTC from an old computer

I have an old PC from college that has a few bitcoins on it that I was obviously wanting to sell since the price is so good right now. My issue is it looks like they are stored on a now defunct wallet called bitcoin.exe... the program doesn't seem to open up but it could be because my computer was trying to do like a thousand updates at a time. I left it on to do updates and will try tomorrow. If the wallet program doesn't open, is there any way to get my bitcoins still?

Beginner Bitcoin Mining Tips

Hey bitcoinmining!
A buddy of mine is looking to sell me his PC. I don't have definitive specs yet, but to my understanding, he has an i9 processor of some sort, 4 liquid cooled nvidia gtx 660's, and over 32 GB of RAM.
I want to use this rig for mining, unfortunately, I'm not sure how.
Should I join a pool or solo mine? Is it really as simple to start as just downloading the bitcoin.exe program and running it to a wallet?
Looking for some general startup tips and would be INSANELY happy if you all could shed some light :)
Thanks so much!

Some questions about the blockchain, wallet.dat, and Truecrypt on Windows

1) Do I need to download the entire blockchain before I can send bitcoins from the official bitcoin client, even if blockexplorer.com says my address has received them? The blockchain is taking a long time for my client to download and my balance is unchanged. (On getblockchain.com, the blockchain is currently 475MB compressed and 1.42GiB uncompressed, although the site is more targeted to linux users.)
2) After following the Bitcoin wiki regarding Truecrypt, if I launch bitcoin.exe with the -datadir option pointing to a Truecrypt container file that contains wallet.dat, does the ever-growing blockchain also have to be in that container file? Can I point the client to one location for the blockchain and another location for the wallet file?
3) Can I leave the blockchain in its normal directory and do I just need to copy wallet.dat out of the Truecrypt container file when I need it? (Or decompress it with 7-zip or decrypt it with GPG4win?) Wouldn't it then be vulnerable to trojans like Infostealer.Coinbit or the metasploit module bitcoin_jacker.rb?
4) Will the plaintext wallet issue be obsolete by version 0.4.0.0 of the official client? And will a headers-only client make it so every user doesn't have to download a neverending blockchain?
